McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh, has fuelled silly season rumours by refusing to deny the possibility of McLaren signing the Formula One World Champion, Jenson Button, for the 2010 season and onwards.
When questioned by the Daily Mail on whether McLaren have contacted Button, Whitmarsh said,
“We’ve talked to a number of drivers. It wouldn’t be appropriate to say more than that. We’ll hire the two best drivers available to us as we always have.”
Brawn GP has yet to sign Button for 2010. It is believed that Brawn and Button have delayed contract negotiations until after the conclusion of the 2009 season. After taking a 5 million pound pay cut for 2010, Button is looking to increase his salary after winning the world championship.
