Lewis Hamilton has admitted that he’d not be averse to new world champion Jenson Button joining his team McLaren for 2010. Button has been linked to the Woking-based team since they made public their desire to sign the best available driver, Button being one of those potentially available since Brawn GP are yet to resign him.
“I’d welcome Jenson as my team-mate. He’s a level-headed and very committed guy. He earned the World Championship and he’s done a great job over the years. I couldn’t be happier for him. He will be a tough competitor next year – whether at Brawn or McLaren.”
Hamilton is keen for any new partner to join with the team in mind, perhaps referencing the doomed partnership with Fernando Alonso in 2007,
“I don’t mind who comes to the team as long as they come in peace and bring peace and want to be productive and move the team forward”
Hamilton also referenced the excitement he has for next season against the likes of Button, with McLaren and Ferrari now coming upto speed,
“Of course, Jenson is going to be a tough competitor again next year, but all I hope is that I have a chance to actually race with him from the start of the year, not from the halfway point, as happened this season. It would be awesome, insane.”
Hamilton was talking to the Daily Mail newspaper.
