Ex-Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen will reportedly earn more money if he is to take a 1 year sabbatical from Formula 1 in 2010. This news, being reported by German magazine Auto Motor und Sport, states that Raikkonen will earn a cool €17m for taking a year out of the sport, or a measly €10m if he finds a drive with another team.
McLaren have clearly found out these crucial details and are subsequently offering Raikkonen a mere €5m for 2010. This would earn Raikkonen €15m Vs €17m if he sat in the sidelines.
Raikkonen was the biggest earner in Formula 1 in 2009, earning $45m compared to his closest rival (in earnings) Lewis Hamilton at $18m. So whatever Raikkonen chooses for next year, he’s taking a pay cut one way or another, unless he can find himself a better deal in a different sport.
